Green Destinations Challenge
The Green Destinations Challenge is an initiative by Go Travel Green Foundation that celebrates and promotes sustainable tourism in Kenya and Africa.
We bring together destinations, businesses, communities, and innovators who are redefining travel through eco-friendly, socially inclusive, and economically impactful practices.
Our mission is simple:
To inspire and showcase the best green tourism practices that protect our environment, empower local communities, and create unforgettable travel experiences.

The iconic Wasini Island Boardwalk, a gateway to mangrove forests and marine wonders, has been given a new life through a sustainable rehabilitation project.
Using recycled plastic poles and eco-friendly materials, the boardwalk now stands as a shining example of how innovation and conservation can go hand in hand.
The old Wasini Island boardwalk, built from mangrove wood, was unsustainable and harmful to the ecosystem, but its rehabilitation with recycled plastic poles now protects the mangrove forest while promoting conservation and eco-tourism.

♻️ Recycled Plastic Solutions – Building Greener Destinations
As part of the Green Destinations Challenge, Go Travel Green is driving innovation in sustainable tourism infrastructure by turning plastic waste into practical, eco-friendly solutions for communities and destinations.
🌿 Eco Benches
Our eco-benches, made entirely from recycled plastics, provide durable, weather-resistant seating in public spaces, parks, and tourist sites. By reducing the need for timber, they help conserve forests while transforming waste into functional amenities that serve both locals and visitors.
🚮 Recycling Stations
We are installing community recycling stations at key tourism sites to encourage proper waste separation and reduce pollution. These stations not only keep destinations clean but also educate travelers and locals on responsible waste management, inspiring a culture of sustainability.
🌉 Boardwalk Bridges
Our eco-boardwalk bridges use recycled plastic poles and planks to replace traditional wooden structures, protecting fragile ecosystems such as mangrove forests and wetlands. These bridges are long-lasting, resistant to rot and termites, and most importantly, eliminate the need to cut down mangrove trees for construction.
Partners & Supporters
The Challenge brings together government agencies, private sector partners, NGOs, and international organizations committed to making tourism a force for good.
